Nissan has started road tests for a new three-row utility vehicle built on the foundation of the existing Tekton model.

Vehicle Design and Layout

The test vehicle carries heavy disguise, but the body looks longer than the five-seat Tekton, with extra space added behind the back wheels alongside an extended rear quarter-panel and a bigger glass section. The front keeps the same inverted-L-shaped LED daytime running lights and headlights, while a changed grille and bumper are anticipated. At the back, the tail lamps drop the C-shaped style of the five-seat version for a downward-extending boomerang look, paired with a thicker connecting light bar and a flatter rear glass. Inside, the cabin will feature three rows with a five-plus-two setup, and extra equipment tailored for a bigger body.

Engine and Pricing

Under the hood, the vehicle is expected to run on a 1.3-litre four-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol motor, while leaving out the smaller 1.0-litre turbo-petrol option from the five-seat model. Power will go through a front-wheel-drive system using either a six-speed manual or a six-speed wet dual-clutch automatic transmission. Expected showroom prices fall between Rs 18 lakh and Rs 22 lakh upon release.

Context

Car makers often test heavily disguised vehicles on public roads to check how components hold up in real-world conditions before final production begins. This upcoming model joins other popular three-row choices in the market like the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar.
