James Longley's film "Mohabat" won the Opus Bonum section at the Ji.hlava Documentary Film Festival on Saturday. The movie follows a 12-year-old boy named Mohabat whose father dies in a drone strike, leaving him to be taken to a city orphanage. Mohammad Sharif Hotak, Longley, and Oscar-winning filmmaker Alex Gibney produced the project. The festival jury praised the movie as meticulously researched and exquisitely crafted, noting that it builds a sympathetic portrait of a family and community by observing the boy and his two older brothers along with village school routines.

Other Winners

Brydie O'Connor's "Barbara Forever" won the Testimonies section for its study of late artist and activist Barbara Hammer. Philipp Fröhlich took the main award in the First Lights section for "After the Rehearsal," while Martin Páv won the Czech Joy main award for "Glowing." Vietnamese-American filmmaker Trinh T. Minh-ha received the Contribution to World Cinema Award during the event.
