Voting takes place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, for 92 urban local bodies in Andhra Pradesh after a delay caused by earlier violence during nominations. The polls cover 13 Municipal Corporations and 79 Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats.

Unopposed Results

Elections in eight Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats ended with candidates winning unopposed. Both chairpersons and ward members were chosen without a contest in Allagadda, Dachepalli, Darsi, Gurajala, Kamalapuram, Piduguralla, Proddatur and Rayachoti.

Official Preparations

District Collector G. Lakshmisha stated that complete arrangements are in place for peaceful voting in the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and four NTR district municipalities. Mr. Lakshmisha, District Election Expenditure Observer B. Vijay Kumar, and VMC Commissioner Dhyanachandra H.M. inspected election material distribution at Loyola College in Vijayawada on Saturday.

Background

The State Election Commission originally scheduled voting for October 28. The Supreme Court ordered a postponement after violent incidents stopped multiple candidates from filing nomination papers. Seat sharing agreements allotted the Mayoral posts of the Greater Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Municipal Corporations to the TDP and Jana Sena Party respectively.

Context

Local body elections decide the local leadership that manages basic civic services like water, sanitation, and roads in towns and cities. Courts often intervene to delay polls when law and order issues prevent fair participation during the nomination stage.
