President Droupadi Murmu launched the flag worship ceremony for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela at Kushavart Teerth in Trimbakeshwar, Nashik, on October 31, 2026. Speaking at the Maha Goda Aarti, President Murmu urged citizens to make the upcoming religious gathering an example of social unity, environmental protection, and the preservation of India's cultural heritage. She noted that the Kumbh serves as a platform to drive social harmony and positive change in the country. Addressing the state's dry spell, she assured farmers that both the central and state governments would provide necessary support without affecting their self-respect.
Leaders and State Plans
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the event reflects the diverse traditions of ancient Indian Sanatan culture and draws devotees from across the world. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the state expects about 12 crore pilgrims for the mega event. To prepare for the crowds, authorities are executing development projects worth nearly ₹35,000 crore in the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar area to boost the regional economy and create local jobs. During the event, President Murmu also launched the official Kumbh Mela anthem and website, and released special commemorative stamps featuring Ramteerth and Kushavart Teerth, which were handed to her by Ramchandra Jaibhave. Other top leaders present at the ceremony included Governor Jishnu Dev Varma and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar.
Context
The Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Nashik and Trimbakeshwar is one of India's largest rotational Hindu pilgrimages, drawing millions of spiritual seekers to bathe in the holy Godavari river. Large-scale government preparations for such mega-gatherings typically focus heavily on building temporary infrastructure, managing massive crowd control, and upgrading local transport networks to handle the sudden influx of pilgrims.
