Millennials in India are using artificial intelligence tools for shopping more than any other age group, reaching an adoption rate of 84 per cent. A report by McKinsey & Company shows that this puts millennials ahead of Gen Z consumers in the country, where 74 per cent use AI tools to search for products, compare options, or make purchases.
Age Groups and Global Ranking
The survey, conducted in June 2026, found that AI shopping adoption is also high among other age groups in India. Gen X consumers recorded a 74 per cent adoption rate, while baby boomers stood at 56 per cent. Across all 11 markets surveyed, India secured second place for overall AI shopping adoption at 76 per cent, trailing only China at 80 per cent and sitting well above the global average of 53 per cent. The study covered roughly 21,000 consumers worldwide.
Trust Levels and Generations
Indian consumers showed strong confidence in AI chat and search tools, with 87 per cent of users expressing trust compared to the global average of 73 per cent. While Gen Z consumers use AI heavily around the world, they tend to be more skeptical of the technology. Globally, 67 per cent of Gen Z AI users trusted these tools, which is below the overall average.
