Protest In Delhi

The INDIA bloc marched Sunday from the Minto Road-Connaught Place junction to Ramlila Maidan in Delhi for a mega rally against alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The Congress-led protest followed a report by The Indian Express on vote allegations, with leaders demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Large crowds of supporters, party workers, and youth and student wings gathered at the venue with placards and slogans.

Leader Speeches

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of trying to steal the votes of women, youth, and Dalits, vowing to keep fighting until Gyanesh Kumar steps down. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav claimed the ruling party is realizing its own supporters are affected by voter deletions. TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee stated that West Bengal is a victim of the revision exercise and accused authorities of hijacking the vote counting. JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah and PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also addressed the gathering, alongside RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav who criticized the election official.

Context

Ramlila Maidan in Delhi is a historic protest site that has hosted numerous large-scale political demonstrations and mass movements over the decades. Electoral roll revisions are routine administrative processes conducted by election authorities to update voter lists, but they become flashpoints when political parties raise concerns over fairness.
