Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy claimed the BJP‑led centre is deleting around 20 crore votes to tilt the 2024 Lok Sabha results. He said 13.5 crore votes have already been removed and another 20 crore are being targeted, a slice of 15‑20 percent of the electorate. He blamed the BJP for using the deletions to win in Bihar, Maharashtra and West Bengal and to repeat the tactic to stay in power. He added the party wants more than 400 seats so it can amend the Constitution and abolish reservations. After failing to get that mandate, he alleged Prime Minister Narendra Modi is now angry at the poor, Dalits, Adivasis and women and is trying to strip them of voting rights. He said the Prime Minister is using Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar to undermine the right to vote guaranteed by B.R. Ambedkar. He noted that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has organised a ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally at Ramlila Maidan under the INDIA Bloc to expose the alleged roll manipulation and protect democratic institutions. He compared the Congress ‘Vanara Sena’ to the army of Vanaras that helped Lord Rama defeat Ravana. Earlier the chief minister received a grand welcome at Telangana Bhavan where Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud and other ministers spoke.

Context

Allegations of voter‑list tampering have surfaced in past Indian elections, and a majority of 400 seats would give the ruling party leeway to pursue constitutional changes. Reservations are a key affirmative‑action policy for historically disadvantaged groups, and any move to remove them would affect millions.

ExplainerWhy this matters

What Happened

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the BJP is deleting tens of millions of votes, citing 13.5 crore already removed and another 20 crore being targeted, to boost its 2024 election performance.

Why It Matters

If true, wiping voter names would disenfranchise large sections of the population, especially the poor, Dalits, Adivasis and women, undermining the constitutional guarantee of universal suffrage. A majority of over 400 seats would let the BJP push constitutional amendments, including the possible removal of reservation quotas that protect disadvantaged groups.

What Happens Next

The allegations are likely to spur political rallies, legal challenges and scrutiny of the Chief Election Commissioner’s role. Election authorities may be called upon to audit the electoral rolls before the next election, while opposition parties plan further protests to highlight the issue.
