Pfizer Healthcare India Private Limited and Sankar Foundation jointly organised a two-day free eye screening camp at Aganampudi in Visakhapatnam. The event took place at the Community Welfare Centre as part of Pfizer's corporate social responsibility program.

Treatment And Surgeries

The camp examined 1,113 patients in total. Doctors prescribed spectacles to 883 people, and 770 individuals received their glasses immediately at the venue. Organisers distributed medicines to 435 patients and selected 75 people for eye surgeries. Medical teams completed 16 operations on the second day, while the remaining procedures were planned for the following day.

Leaders And Support

Ravi Chander Katta, who serves as the Pfizer Site Head, officially opened the camp. A. Krishna Kumar, the managing trustee and chief executive officer of Sankar Foundation, thanked Pfizer for helping provide eye care to communities that lack easy access to medical services.

Context

Corporate social responsibility programs allow major private companies to fund public health camps in smaller or underserved neighbourhoods. Free local health camps help find untreated vision problems early, which prevents long-term vision loss for people who might not visit a hospital otherwise.
