GeneralDelhi Implements Special Traffic Plans for Gandhi Jayanti and Shastri Birth Anniversary

Special traffic arrangements will be in place near Rajghat and Vijay Ghat on Friday morning as Delhi prepares for Gandhi Jayanti and the 122nd birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The Delhi Traffic Police has set the timing from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m. on 2 October and has asked drivers to stay calm, obey traffic rules and follow any diversion signs shown by police personnel. Motorists are also told to cooperate with staff directing vehicles to keep congestion low. For live updates, commuters can contact the Delhi Traffic Police through the channels listed in the advisory. The newly opened Barapullah Phase‑III corridor, intended to link East and South Delhi, saw severe bottlenecks a day after its inauguration. Traffic surged as seven lanes merged into three, creating queues that stretched three to four kilometres. Commuter Amitabh Mathur reported being stuck for more than 40 minutes travelling from Mayur Vihar to IIC around 10 a.m. Another commuter, Gaurav Anand, said the stretch towards the Ashram was temporarily closed during peak hours. Sachin Raghav from Greater Noida spent about 30 minutes on the flyover and noted that the promised 15‑minute travel time turned into a two‑hour delay.

Context

Delhi often imposes temporary traffic plans for large public gatherings, and new road links can face initial overload as drivers adjust to altered lane patterns.
