Maharashtra signed 67 memorandums of understanding worth ₹8.57 lakh crore, projected to generate 2.91 lakh jobs across key sectors, the state government said Thursday.

What Happened

The MoUs were signed in Mumbai in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and several ministers. The agreements cover semiconductors, data centres, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, aerospace and defence, healthcare and agro‑processing. Fadnavis announced the launch of the “Invest Maharashtra” initiative, saying it will channel the investments into MSMEs, local businesses, youth, farmers and all regions of the state. The total investment is expected to strengthen Maharashtra’s industrial ecosystem and spur ancillary businesses.

Reaction

Fadnavis posted on X that the deals show growing confidence in Maharashtra as a hub for investment, innovation and industry. He highlighted upcoming projects such as “Mumbai 3”, “Mumbai 4”, Education Cities, Medicities and AI & Innovation Cities, linking them to the state’s goal of a $1 trillion economy by 2030. He said the pipeline of proposals will translate into direct and indirect employment for the youth. Ministers Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Ashish Shelar, Jaykumar Rawal, Sanjay Sawkare and Uday Samant were also present.

Context

Large‑scale MoUs are a common way for Indian states to attract private capital and create jobs. The sectors listed are priority areas in the national manufacturing and technology push, which aim to boost exports and reduce import dependence. Such initiatives align with the central government’s Make in India programme, encouraging states to develop manufacturing clusters.
