First 12 stations of Pune Metro Line 3, covering the 13‑km stretch from Maan to the R K Laxman Museum, are ready for operations after provisional CMRS authorisation on July 23. The line now includes 12 functional stations while work continues at Sakalnagar, University, RBI and District Court, the four stations still awaiting safety clearance. The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is finalising data uploads for the CMRS inspection of these stations. About 96.5 % of the entire Line 3 project has been completed; only minor staircase work remains at some of the opened stations. The safety‑clearance process for the pending stations is expected to start soon, and once approved they will join the operational network. No official inauguration date for the 12‑station stretch has been announced; PMRDA officials have asked for a date but the final schedule is still pending. The broader Hinjewadi‑Shivajinagar Metro, which spans 23.3 km, has faced several delays. Its completion deadline has now been pushed to 31 March 2027, with remaining stations to open in phases. PMRDA had earlier aimed to have all 23 stations running by December 2026, and the extension to March 2027 is intended to allow extra time for residual civil works and other obligations.
Context
Metro projects in Indian cities often require safety clearances from the CMRS before public use, and extensions of deadlines are common when civil works run behind schedule. The phased opening means commuters will gradually gain access to new routes as each station receives clearance.
