All Anganwadi centres, schools and junior colleges in Guntur district will remain closed on Monday, 2 November 2026, after District Collector C.M. Saikanth Varma issued a heavy‑rainfall warning tied to Cyclone Murasu. The collector said the cyclone could bring strong winds, heavy rain and possible flooding, and ordered the holiday for institutions under all managements – government, private and aided alike. He advised residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary. Safety directives include staying away from dilapidated buildings, avoiding crossing streams, rivulets or rivers, refraining from fishing, and not touching wet electric poles to prevent electrocution. Early‑morning drizzling was reported across Guntur city on Monday. The warning follows a series of low‑pressure systems that have already caused water‑logging in parts of the district. Local authorities have urged commuters to use caution on roads that may become slippery. Emergency services are on standby to respond to any incidents that may arise during the storm.

Context

Cyclones frequently lead officials in coastal Andhra Pradesh to suspend school activities to limit injury risk. The district collector, as the chief administrative officer, has authority to declare holidays and issue safety advisories. Similar precautions were taken during earlier cyclones such as Nivar and Yaas.
