Nothing has started rolling out its Nothing OS 5.0 update, based on Android 17, to several smartphone models including the Phone (4a) Pro, Phone (4a), Phone (3a) Pro and Phone (3a). The stable release first reached the Nothing Phone (3) in October 2026.

Rollout And Features

Distribution is phased by device, region and carrier, meaning users can check through Settings under System updates. The software brings a redesigned interface with wallpaper-based colours, tinted app icons, transparent widgets, the Geist typeface and new lock-screen clock styles like Gooey and Micrographics. It also adds a dedicated Glyph app, a home-screen Glyph Timer, a sticker-making tool called Collector, and Away Time for tracking screen-free breaks.

AI And Performance

Artificial intelligence updates include Smart Collections for grouping saved content in Essential Space, real-time text display in Essential Voice with support for over 100 languages, and the Essential Apps Builder for creating apps using natural language. The update also brings Android 17 features like separate Notifications and Quick Settings spaces, QR-code file sharing for iPhones, Noto 3D emojis, and faster app launching.

Timeline And Eligibility

The Phone (2a) and Phone (2a) Plus are scheduled for mid-November 2026, the Phone (3a) Lite for late December 2026, and the Phone (4b) and CMF Phone 2 Pro for mid-January 2027. Older models like the Phone (1), Phone (2) and CMF Phone 1 will not receive the update.

Context

Major smartphone brands regularly push out operating system updates to introduce new features, security improvements, and design overhauls. Phased rollouts help companies manage server loads and catch bugs early before reaching all users globally.
