Project Details
The company will build an integrated greenfield steel complex in Chandrapur, located in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The facility will have a production capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per year. Operations at the plant are planned to start within the ongoing financial year, though this depends on getting the required approvals, clearances, and incentives.
Job Creation
The large project is expected to generate about 30,000 jobs in total. This count includes 10,000 direct jobs and 20,000 indirect roles.
Expansion Strategy
This project is part of the company's wider plan to grow its business outside its traditional strong base in eastern India. Shyam Metalics has also planned other investments in eastern states like Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand.
Context
Large industrial investments often look at regions with good access to raw materials and transport links to build massive production plants. State governments actively compete to attract such projects by offering special incentives to boost local manufacturing and employment.
