TrendingRain expected tomorrow in eight Tamil Nadu districts, says Chennai weather centre

The Chennai Weather Research Centre has warned that tomorrow, Saturday 3 October, rain is likely in eight districts of Tamil Nadu. Moderate showers with thunderstorms and winds of 40‑50 km/h may affect the Western Ghats districts, Madurai, Thiruchirappalli, Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga, while Puducherry and Karaikal could see lighter rain with lightning. The centre attributes the unsettled weather to a cyclonic circulation at about 0.9 km altitude over the southeast Arabian Sea, a low‑pressure trough extending from the same altitude across the central‑east Arabian Sea, and another circulation at roughly 3.1 km over the southwest Bay of Bengal and nearby Sri Lankan waters. Today, 2 October, the sky will be partly cloudy with a chance of light evening rain in Chennai and its suburbs; temperatures are expected to hover between a maximum of 34‑35 °C and a minimum of 26‑27 °C. The same pattern is forecast for tomorrow, with the added possibility that daytime temperatures could rise up to 3 °C above normal. A separate outlook from the centre notes that the day after tomorrow heavy rain may hit the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri and Theni districts.## Context Such low‑pressure systems over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are typical drivers of pre‑monsoon rain in Tamil Nadu, bringing both moderate showers and occasional thunderstorms to the region.
