Dealer dispatches and vehicle deliveries have already started for this made-in-India SUV, which is offered in three main trim levels named HTE, HTK, and HTX. These trims branch out into 32 total variants when combining options like (O), (A), 6-seater, 7-seater, diesel, hybrid, two-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive configurations, alongside eight exterior paint choices. Positioned in a niche space between smaller monocoque SUVs and larger ladder-frame models like the Toyota Fortuner, the Sorento measures slightly longer and wider than the Fortuner while falling short in height.
Interior And Features
The cabin features two curved 12.3-inch screens dominating the dashboard, a smart control cluster for media and climate functions, a wireless charging pad, and ventilated seat controls. Front occupants get electrically operated seats with a 10-way powered driver seat featuring memory and massage functions, plus an 8-way powered co-driver seat with a relaxation mode. Buyers can choose between a 6-seater layout with captain chairs or a 7-seater bench layout, with second-row passengers getting ventilated seats, sun shades, USB ports, and a 220-volt 3-pin socket. The vehicle also includes a panoramic sunroof, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and Kia Connect 2.0 telematics. Boot space measures 180 litres with all three seat rows in use, expanding to 813 litres when the third row is folded down.
Powertrains And Performance
Buyers can pick between a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 1.6-litre self-charging hybrid engine, which marks Kia's first hybrid offering in India. The hybrid system combines a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine with a 64 bhp electric motor and a 1.49 kWh battery, producing about 180 PS and 265 Nm through a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Kia claims a fuel efficiency of 19.6 kilometres per litre for the hybrid two-wheel drive and 17.7 kilometres per litre for the hybrid four-wheel drive. The 2.2-litre diesel engine, which also powers the Carnival minivan, produces strong torque and pairs with an 8-speed wet dual-clutch transmission and an available four-wheel drive setup. Kia promises mileage figures of 17.66 kilometres per litre for the diesel two-wheel drive and 15.79 kilometres per litre for the diesel four-wheel drive, supported by a 67-litre fuel tank.
Context
Vehicle manufacturers frequently introduce larger global SUVs to emerging markets like India to capture demand among buyers looking to upgrade from mid-size models without stepping up to bulky traditional off-roaders. Hybrid powertrains have become a key focus for automakers aiming to offer improved fuel economy and lower emissions without requiring drivers to rely exclusively on public charging infrastructure.
