Meta is expanding its Muse artificial intelligence agent beyond standard screens with a new open-source project called Muse Gadgets. The initiative encourages developers and makers to build custom hardware powered by Muse using off-the-shelf ESP32 boards or Raspberry Pi setups.
Developer Hardware and Tools
Developers can connect Muse to displays, buttons, sensors, and actuators using Meta's SDKs and open-source firmware. Suggested projects include pairing the AI with a color E Ink display for reminders or plugging it into an HDMI stick for larger screens. Meta has also created a Discord channel to support the community of users.
Muse Home Link
As part of this effort, Meta built a small USB-C-powered device called Muse Home Link to connect the AI to home Wi-Fi networks and smart devices like TVs and speakers. Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, stated that the company manufactured 5,000 units of Home Link. These devices are being given away free to active Muse subscribers in the United States while supplies last and will ship in a few weeks.
Muse Charm and Business Tools
This hardware push follows the recent introduction of Muse Charm at Meta Connect by CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The keychain-sized device features a fingerprint sensor and a small avatar screen, with shipping planned for the December holiday season. Meanwhile, Meta is also pushing Muse toward corporate users through Muse for Small Business and a new business unit called Meta Enterprise Platform.
Context
Tech companies are increasingly moving AI agents out of software-only chat windows and into dedicated physical devices and smart-home ecosystems. Open-source hardware initiatives help build active developer communities around new platforms by letting hobbyists test unconventional form factors and build custom tools.
