Major Car Makers Post Strong Sales Growth Across India in September 2026

Major car manufacturers in India reported strong sales numbers for September 2026, led by Maruti Suzuki with total sales of 2,36,013 units.

Maruti Suzuki sold 1,81,838 domestic passenger vehicles during the month, compared with 1,32,820 units in September 2025. Mahindra Auto recorded overall sales of 1,14,874 vehicles, achieving a 15 per cent growth with 64,092 domestic utility vehicles sold. Hyundai Motor India registered its highest-ever monthly total sales of 77,916 units, growing 10.8 per cent year on year. Tata Motors posted total passenger vehicle sales of 70,210 units, marking a 15 per cent increase from the previous year.

Strong EV and Other Numbers

Tata Motors recorded its highest-ever quarterly sales in Q2 FY27 with 2,01,723 units, alongside EV sales of 15,384 units in September. Kia India achieved its highest-ever monthly sales since entering the market by selling 32,017 units. Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 28,218 units, while JSW MG Motor India reported 8,018 dispatches along with the launch of the Tomahawk EV. Renault India recorded domestic wholesales of 3,399 units, marking a 20 per cent month-on-month rise.
