BMW has pulled the wraps off the eighth-generation 3 Series, carrying the G50 codename and adopting fresh Neue Klasse styling. The new luxury car sits on an updated version of the CLAR platform and shares much of its interior and exterior look with the all-electric i3 model shown in March 2026.

Styling And Cabin Features

On the outside, wide black panels hold the headlamps and daytime running lights, which feature lit-up surrounds. The sporty M350 model stands out with yellow DRLs, unique grille lighting, a quad-exhaust layout, a black cabin finish, and a special M-spec steering wheel. Overall, the eighth-generation sedan is longer and wider than the older model, with the bootlid badge being one of the few ways to tell it apart from the i3. Inside, the dashboard matches the i3 design by adding a full-width Panoramic Vision display. A large 17.9-inch rhomboidal touchscreen handles infotainment and includes Amazon Alexa plus AI integration. Every version of the new 3 Series comes with a fixed panoramic glass roof as a standard fitting. At the back, the luggage boot holds up to 450 litres, which is 30 litres less than the previous version.

Engine Options And Performance

BMW has shared details for the 318, 320, and M350 models. The 318 and 320 rely on a 2.0-litre four-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol motor paired with rear-wheel drive. Specifically, the 320 puts out 211 horsepower through an eight-speed automatic gearbox, hitting zero to 100 kph in a claimed 7.4 seconds on its way to a 240 kph top speed. Meanwhile, the top-tier M350 gets a 3.0-litre direct-injection turbo straight-six engine that pushes out 426 horsepower. Sending power to all four wheels through the standard eight-speed torque converter automatic, the M350 rockets from zero to 100 kph in just 4.1 seconds.

Context

Automakers often share platforms and interior tech across their electric and fuel-powered lineups to cut manufacturing costs while giving buyers a familiar user experience. The BMW 3 Series has long served as a key benchmark in the luxury sedan market, balancing everyday usability with performance. Bringing fresh digital assistants and electrified-looking styling elements helps traditional sedans compete against a growing wave of new electric vehicles.
