Nvidia shares recovered sharply from a recent sell-off that had erased over $1 trillion from the world's most valuable company. Stock prices surged as much as 3% on Friday to touch an intraday record high of $237.88 per share on NASDAQ, before ending 1.3% higher at $233.95.
Stock Surge And Market Value
The recent rally brought shares about 23% higher from their late-July low and 45% above their 52-week low of $164.27 reached in May 2026. Nvidia's total market value now sits at roughly $5.6 trillion, placing the company less than $400 billion away from a historic $6 trillion milestone.
Buybacks And New Security
Nvidia's Board of Directors approved a $150 billion increase to its share buyback programme on September 28, 2026, bringing the total remaining repurchase authorisation to $235 billion through fiscal 2028. This move surpasses Apple's previous record of $110 billion from 2024. CEO Jensen Huang stated that strong cash generation enables heavy investment in future tech alongside capital returns to shareholders. Meanwhile, quarterly revenue has crossed $96 billion, and the company also introduced a new double-layered security system to keep AI agents within safe boundaries.
Context
Stock prices for major technology firms often fluctuate based on shifting market expectations around emerging technologies like artificial intelligence. Large corporate share buybacks reduce the total number of shares available on the market, which can support stock prices by increasing per-share value.
