Ben Wang is in talks to join the Marvel Studios X-Men reboot in the role of Bobby Drake, also known as Iceman. Iceman is one of the founding members of the original X-Men team, created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby with a first comic appearance in September 1963.
Cast and Crew
If the deal is finalized, Wang will join a large cast that includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Kit Connor as Cyclops, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, Maya Boyd as Storm, Asa Germann as Angel, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, and Adam Driver as Mr. Sinister. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige first shared this new cast lineup at the D23 convention in August. Jake Schreier will direct the movie based on a script written by Lee Sung Jin and Joanna Calo, with the theatrical release scheduled for May 5, 2028.
Background and Context
This project brings the mutant team under the Marvel Studios umbrella for the first time, serving as a reboot since the 2019 Fox film X-Men: Dark Phoenix. Wang's recent work includes roles in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the latest Karate Kid movie, The Long Walk, and the 2004 Mean Girls reboot. Deadline was the first outlet to break the news about his potential casting, while Marvel Studios did not immediately reply to requests for comment.
