Indian shares are set to open higher on Tuesday, building on three days of gains, backed by strong company results, lower crude oil prices, and signs that foreign investors are returning to the market. GIFT Nifty futures stood at 23,523.5 in the morning, pointing to a positive start for the Nifty 50, which closed at 23,440.8 on Monday. Both the Nifty 50 and the BSE Sensex jumped 1.7% on Monday to hit their highest levels in over five and eight weeks respectively.

Market Flows And Oil Prices

Foreign portfolio investors were net buyers in Indian markets on Monday, putting in 31.15 billion rupees, while domestic institutional investors sold shares worth a net 3.92 billion rupees. Meanwhile, Brent crude traded flat at about $105 a barrel after dropping 7% in the previous session. Talks between Iran and Qatari mediators have lifted hopes for an end to the US-Israeli war with Iran, even though reports of a US strike on Iran's Qeshm Island kept tensions elevated.

Corporate Updates

Among individual companies, Marico is in focus after beating its quarterly profit view due to lower copra costs and strong demand. Dr. Reddy's announced that the US FDA has tentatively approved a generic version of a new HIV prevention drug. Granules India posted about a 40% rise in September quarter profit as new product launches and strong sales of its main medicines in overseas markets outweighed higher production costs.

Context

Stock markets often react quickly to shifts in crude oil prices because energy costs directly affect inflation and company operating expenses in an importing nation like India. Corporate earnings reports and foreign investor fund flows serve as primary drivers for short-term stock price movements.
