Eight people were arrested in Tripura’s Sepahijala district for assaulting four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, including Assistant Commandant Rohit Kumar. The attack took place on Monday at Ashabari in the Boxanagar area of Sepahijala. Police say the clash began when BSF members of the 49th Battalion confronted a local resident over an alleged smuggling‑related dispute. The resident was beaten, prompting villagers to block the Boxanagar‑Rahimpur road in protest. Protesters then turned violent, attacking Assistant Commandant Rohit Kumar, his staff and damaging their vehicle. BSF troops rushed to the scene and the injured officers were taken to a nearby primary health centre for initial treatment. Chief Minister Manik Saha posted on X that all eight accused will face strict legal action and that violence against security forces will not be tolerated. He directed authorities to ensure swift and stringent action against the perpetrators. The police confirmed that all eight suspects have been taken into custody and will be presented before the court. In his X post, Saha’s statement also warned that any future attacks on BSF members will attract swift and uncompromising penalties. He reiterated that the safety of security forces is a priority for the state government. ## Context The incident highlights tensions that can arise over smuggling allegations in border areas and shows the state’s firm stance on protecting its security forces.
