A special campaign will be held across the state to spread awareness about the harmful effects of alcohol. As the first step, a women's awareness rally is set to begin in Chennai on October 2nd, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, demanding a complete ban on liquor. Pasumai Thayagam President and PMK Legislative Party Leader Soumya Anbumani launched a new movement for a liquor-free state in Chennai on Friday. She stated that the group will work to pressure the TVK government to gradually reduce liquor shops and create a liquor-free state. According to her, road accidents are very high in the state and alcohol is the main reason for this, alongside law and order problems and family violence. She also reminded everyone that the TVK election manifesto promised to take steps to shut down liquor shops step by step if they came to power. To raise public awareness, campaigns will be held across various areas from Gummidipoondi to Kanyakumari and from Ooty to Kodaikanal. PMK Treasurer Tilagabama, former MLAs Sakthi Kamalamal, Kasambu Pumalai, and women's wing state official Nirmalaraja attended the event.
