AIADMK Leader Palaniswami Slams State Government Over Onion Handling
Reported by Danish Ansari (Fact-Checker) · The Hindu - National ·
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has criticised the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam-led regime for being lethargic in handling onion procurement.
The Warehouse Issue
Mr Palaniswami pointed to reports of onions rotting at a warehouse in Korrukkupet after a three-day delay in unloading them from lorries. The State government stated it did not accept 450 tonnes of onions from the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India due to poor quality. Meanwhile, NAFED stated it had not yet received the returned consignment, leaving the people of the State to suffer.
Context
Political leaders frequently clash over the management and pricing of essential food supplies like onions, which are prone to rapid spoilage and high price swings. Public distribution and agricultural supply chains require quick coordination between central bodies and state administrations to prevent such waste.
