Netflix announced a new AI Discover tab on Tuesday to help users find shows and movies based on what they are currently in the mood for.

How It Works

Users can pick from curated themes that use video clips from shows and films. These themes depend on a viewer's mood, viewing preferences, available time, or trending titles. Options include 'something light', 'scare me', 'family movie night', and 'quick watches'. Viewers can also pick more specific themes, or use a 'something different' button to start over if needed. Every title features a 'Tune Your Recommendations' button right next to 'Play' and 'My List'. This lets people save picks they like or hide titles they do not want to see again. Netflix calls this new tab its test kitchen for trying out ideas. The platform plans to use user feedback to decide which features to keep or improve before adding them to the main app.

Rollout Details

The feature is rolling out now in the U.S. for users who set their language to English on supported TVs. Netflix plans to bring the tab to more users in the coming weeks. Users who have the update will see a Discover button with a red gem icon and a New label in the top TV navigation bar.

Context

Streaming services often test new features on a small group of users before a wide public release. This helps companies fix bugs and measure user interest without changing the main app for everyone at once. As streaming libraries grow larger, platforms are constantly building new tools to help viewers find content faster.
