Police have arrested truck driver Gajendra Rawat from Alirajpur district for killing an inspector in Madhya Pradesh. Inspector Dilip Puri died on Monday after a truck carrying illegal alcohol ran him over when he tried to stop it for checking in Dewas district. A constable was also injured in the incident.

The Arrest And Investigation

Special Director General Upendra Jain stated that the suspect sustained a bullet wound in his right leg during a brief shoot-out while officers were bringing him back to Dewas, and doctors are treating him at the district hospital. Mr. Rawat had earlier escaped on foot after leaving the truck behind, while officers seized about 1,800 litres of hidden alcohol meant for transport to Gujarat. Investigators discovered an inter-state network smuggling alcohol from Harda district to Alirajpur and across the state border.

Arrests And Political Links

Authorities have taken three other individuals into custody, including key suspect Rahul Jaiswal who allegedly managed the Harda operations, his Indore associate Vijay Rao, and truck owner Kairam Singh Changod. Police noted that Mr. Rahul identified himself as a local Congress party functionary in Dewas. Meanwhile, Dewas police also detained state Congress spokesperson Anand Kasliwal for tampering with records linked to a separate fake alcohol case that killed 13 people in October, following an earlier arrest of his businessman son Aman Kasliwal for supplying chemicals.

Context

Inter-state bootlegging networks often exploit forested and porous borders between states like Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat to bypass checkposts. Police forces prioritize apprehending suspects and securing custody before calculating exact totals of illegal goods moved over time.
