Suhas Subramanyam secured a second term in the U.S. House of Representatives, winning 61.5% of the vote in Virginia's 10th congressional district. Republican challenger Dave Beckwith received 36.4% of the ballots. Subramanyam, 40, was born in Houston to Indian parents and studied at Tulane University in New Orleans, where he organized volunteers after Hurricane Katrina. He later earned a law degree with honours from Northwestern University and worked as a policy aide on Capitol Hill, helping expand health‑care access, build a bipartisan immigration reform coalition, and draft legislation for veterans, seniors and working families. During President Barack Obama’s administration he served as a White House technology policy adviser. After leaving the White House he opened a small business in Loudoun County, Virginia, and volunteered as an EMT and firefighter. He was first elected to the Virginia General Assembly in 2019, served two terms, and subsequently held a seat in the Virginia State Senate before winning a congressional seat in 2024.

Context

The 10th district covers parts of Northern Virginia and has leaned Democratic in recent cycles, so Subramanyam’s strong win continues the area’s pattern of supporting incumbents with a focus on health and immigration issues.
