A man wanted for sexual assault has been brought back to India from the United Arab Emirates. Sajeer Palli Mooppam landed in the country on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. The Central Bureau of Investigation worked together with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs to secure his return. An escort team from the Delhi Police traveled to bring him back.

The Charges

Investigators state that the accused and an accomplice gave a drug to a 20-year-old woman to make her unconscious. They took her to a hotel room after using another person's identity details to check in and avoid getting caught. Medical and forensic tests later confirmed the sexual assault. Police filed a chargesheet before asking the CBI to get an Interpol Red Notice issued against the suspect.

Context

Interpol Red Notices are requests to law enforcement agencies worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition or similar legal action. Extradition involves an official process where one country asks another to send back a person accused or convicted of a crime to face trial.
