Cockroach Janta Party leaders face potential arrest ahead of a nationwide protest planned for October 10 against the Special Intensive Revision exercise and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Potential Arrests
CJP co-convenor Saurav Das stated on X that he and other party members might be detained before the demonstration. Co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka added that multiple sources indicated he, Das, and founder Abhijeet Dipke could be arrested under the National Security Act or similar provisions. Ratna Singh, head of the CJP law team, claimed Das received this warning from a senior agency officer. Ranka stated that all three leaders have been prepared for imprisonment since June 6.
Protests and Previous Clashes
The upcoming October 10 event follows protests on October 2 in Mumbai and Delhi demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. While the Mumbai demonstration at Shivaji Park was peaceful, police detained 550 people in the national capital as Aam Aadmi Party leaders, Left student groups, and civil society members tried to reach Jantar Mantar. Protests by the All India Students' Association in Delhi have continued for two days, with authorities registering three First Information Reports following clashes. This follows an earlier CJP protest in July at Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper-leak case, where clashes on July 20 injured over 100 people on both sides.
Context
Political protests in the national capital frequently draw heavy police presence and detentions when demonstrators attempt to march toward restricted zones like Jantar Mantar. The Cockroach Janta Party has emerged as a vocal youth-led group organizing demonstrations around governance and election issues. Such movements often rely on social media platforms to coordinate nationwide mobilization and respond to potential police action.
