Honda has opened bookings for the XR300L and XR300 Rally motorcycles, with prices starting at Rs 1.83 lakh for the base model and Rs 2.08 lakh for the Rally variant. Both bikes were part of a 10-model line-up showcased by the manufacturer in July.

Specifications

Both motorcycles use a 293.5cc air- and oil-cooled engine that is closely related to the unit in the CB300F, producing around 24.3 horsepower and 26.5 Newton-meters of torque in international markets. The India-spec versions feature revised exhaust routing compared to the South American XR300L to comply with local emissions rules. Both models use telescopic front forks, a rear monoshock, and a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wire-spoke wheel setup.

Variant Differences

For a price premium of Rs 25,000, the XR300 Rally adds a 5-inch TFT display, a larger fuel tank, a taller windscreen, knuckle guards, and rally-inspired bodywork with more switchgear. This variant also has a slightly taller seat height and an increased kerb weight because of the larger fuel tank.

Market Position

These models enter a growing segment where Honda has not played a major role before. The XR300L at Rs 1.83 lakh costs less than the Kawasaki KLX230 priced at Rs 2.19 lakh while offering a bigger engine, and sits close to the Hero Xpulse 210 range priced between Rs 1.68 lakh and Rs 1.77 lakh. The XR300 Rally at Rs 2.08 lakh remains notably cheaper than the KLX.

Context

Automobile manufacturers often introduce off-road and adventure motorcycles to tap into the rising demand for adventure touring and trail riding among young riders. Entering this class allows brands to expand beyond commuter motorcycles and offer specialized machines for varied terrain.
