GeneralIndian Railways puts eleven long trains under new cleanliness watch

Indian Railways has identified eleven long-distance trains with journeys lasting more than forty hours for special cleanliness monitoring. A Railway Board letter dated October three states that these services will receive enhanced attention for cleanliness and serviceability throughout their routes, rather than only at their starting stations.

Train Operations And Rules

The list of identified trains includes the Vivek Express, Avadh Assam Express, Amrapali Express, and Jhelum Express. The Vivek Express features the longest journey among them, covering about four thousand one hundred fifty-eight kilometres with a rake turnaround time of one hundred seventy hours. Railway zones must closely monitor these trains while they are on the move to address coach cleanliness, toilets, garbage disposal, and minor repairs before problems grow.

Cleaning And Waste Management

Officers will review cleanliness levels and passenger complaints on a regular basis, while Clean Train Station points must have adequate manpower, equipment, and consumables. Onboard housekeeping staff will collect garbage every two hours and hand it over at designated disposal points instead of throwing it along the tracks. Staff will also receive regular training for tasks, proper etiquettes, and behaviour, while time-stamped photographs of coaches and toilets will be taken at selected inspection points to help track conditions.

Context

Long-distance rail travel in India spans multiple days and places heavy strain on onboard facilities. Enhanced en-route monitoring helps bridge the gap between initial station cleaning and the final destination.
