Reported by Siddharth Deshmukh (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
DMK president M.K. Stalin on Wednesday accused corporate power centres of controlling the TVK-led government and claimed Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was being used to run the administration.
Government And Law
Speaking at a Coimbatore event organised by the Dravidar Kazhagam, Mr. Stalin alleged the Chief Minister could not take independent decisions. He stated the administration had turned into a circus where corporate forces pulled the strings. Mr. Stalin also claimed astrologers dictated official dates and attire for the Chief Minister. The DMK leader raised several governance issues, including power cuts. He claimed the administration bought electricity from the open market at nearly double the price after cancelling power deals made during the previous DMK regime. On law and order, he said Coimbatore saw ten murders in a month and pointed to the arrest of a TVK functionary from Nagapattinam over a 135 kg methamphetamine seizure. Mr. Stalin alleged that ruling party functionaries faced charges of extortion, intimidation, and sending obscene messages to women. He also claimed DVAC searches at the premises of former Minister K.N. Nehru were politically motivated to distract the public.
Context
Political leaders in India frequently use public rallies and anniversary events organized by allied or ideological organizations to target the ruling party and highlight governance failures. Such public speeches form a key part of political opposition strategy between elections.
