The Indian stock market closed higher for a fifth straight session, led by a strong return of foreign institutional investors and easing global oil prices. Nifty 50 gained 0.63 percent to end at 23,960.60, which was its day-high after a weak start in the morning. Foreign institutional investors bought shares worth ₹6,836 crore on November 3 and ₹18,661 crore across five of the last six trading sessions. Brent crude oil prices dropped to about $103.2, while a firmer rupee near 94.60 against the dollar also supported the rally alongside strong company earnings and attractive large-cap valuations.

Sector Performance

Media led sectoral gains with a 5.15 percent jump, followed by realty up 2.85 percent, metal up 2.80 percent, and energy up 2.17 percent. Nifty IT was the only sector to drop, falling 1.50 percent as United States midterm results hit technology stocks across Asia. Individual gainers on the Nifty included BEL up 4.71 percent, Adani Enterprises up 4.47 percent, and Titan up 4.22 percent. On the losing side, TCS fell 2.52 percent, HCL Tech dropped 2.37 percent, and Infosys lost 1.73 percent. For stock picks, MarketSmith India issued buy recommendations for Engineers India Limited at a current price of ₹301 and Indiabulls Limited at a current price of ₹31.

Technical Outlook

Nifty Bank also closed higher, rising 373.55 points or 0.67 percent to finish at 55,913.60. HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, and Bank of Baroda drove the banking gains, while AU Bank emerged as the top gainer with a 2.77 percent jump. Analysts note that immediate resistance for Nifty 50 sits at 24,000, while support is marked at 23,700 and 23,230. Meanwhile, inflation risks and expected rate hikes by the Reserve Bank of India remain factors that could limit further market gains.

Context

Foreign institutional investors play a major role in driving large movements on Indian stock exchanges due to the sheer volume of capital they deploy. Stock advisory platforms like MarketSmith India use technical indicators such as the Relative Strength Index and moving averages to help retail investors spot potential market trends.
