CSK and Sunrisers Hyderabad swap four players before IPL 2027

Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad have completed a four-player trade ahead of the 2027 Indian Premier League season. Liam Livingstone and Jack Edwards will move to Chennai, while Khaleel Ahmed and Nathan Ellis are joining Hyderabad.

Player Details

English all-rounder Livingstone joins Chennai at a reduced fee of six crore rupees after Sunrisers originally bought him for thirteen crore rupees. Australian seam-bowling all-rounder Edwards also moves to Chennai at his existing fee of three crore rupees. Edwards was signed by Hyderabad before playing his first international match for Australia and missed the 2026 season due to a foot injury.

Returns and Signings

Hyderabad receives left-arm fast bowler Khaleel at his existing fee of four point eight crore rupees. Khaleel previously played for Hyderabad from 2018 onwards and returns after taking fifteen wickets in fourteen matches for Chennai during the 2025 campaign. He played five matches for Chennai in 2026 before a right quadriceps injury ruled him out. Australian fast bowler Ellis also moves to Hyderabad at his existing fee of two crore rupees, bringing death-overs bowling experience to the team.

Context

Trades between Indian Premier League franchises before a new season allow teams to balance their squads and manage player fees outside of the main auction process. Such deals are common as management groups look to fill specific gaps in their bowling and batting lineups.
