SIP contributions surged to a record ₹32,297 crore in August 2026, the highest monthly inflow ever recorded, underscoring domestic investor resilience amid a 10% equity index correction over the past two years. The surge came as the Association of Mutual Funds in India (Amfi) reported that 5.38 million SIPs were discontinued or reached maturity in August, the most since January 2026 when the figure was 5.55 million. Sid Swaminathan, managing director and chief executive of Jio BlackRock Asset Management, said the net flow growth masks significant monthly stoppages and cancellations. He warned that many stopped SIPs had been active for less than two years, raising concerns that newer investors may exit after a 5‑10% market dip, missing long‑term wealth creation. A Kotak Institutional Equities report dated 29 September noted that retail and some institutional investors still base decisions on trailing returns and short‑term sentiment. Akhil Chaturvedi of Motilal Oswal Asset Management said the structural momentum of India’s SIP story is disproving critics, as underperformance in the Nifty 50 no longer triggers mass redemptions. He pointed out that over two‑thirds of active SIPs now flow into flexi‑cap, mid‑cap and small‑cap funds, which have delivered resilient returns. Small‑cap fund inflows rose from ₹2,942.11 crore in January to ₹7,973.33 crore in August, while mid‑cap inflows grew from ₹3,185.47 crore to ₹6,989.40 crore over the same period. Flexi‑cap inflows peaked at ₹10,147.85 crore in April but fell to ₹5,059.42 crore by August. Feroze Azeez, joint CEO of Anand Rathi Wealth, highlighted that the SIP stoppage ratio fell from about 90% in May‑June to 81% in July‑August, indicating new registrations outpaced cancellations. He added that the current data does not point to a broad retail pullback, as stoppages can result from scheme changes or plan completion. Market participants expect the near‑term equity outlook to hinge on earnings, global rates, energy costs and geopolitical risks, with focus shifting to earnings trajectory and inflation. ## Context Systematic Investment Plans are monthly auto‑debits that let retail investors build wealth over time; their flow trends are closely watched as a barometer of market confidence.
