UPDATE - follow-up to Two actors held on charge of assaulting and robbing doctor in Kochi: Two film actors have been arrested in Kochi after a 41‑year‑old doctor was allegedly assaulted and robbed of valuables worth ₹3.25 lakh. The arrests were made by Kadavanthra police on November 6, 2026. The men identified by police are Bibin Perumpally, the first accused, and Athulya Chandra, the third accused. The doctor, a resident of Kureekad in Ernakulam, lodged a complaint stating he was lured to an apartment on the pretext of an emergency medical need and attacked between 6.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. on November 2, 2026. The first information report lists a total of 12 accused, including one identified person and nine whose identities are still unknown. The accused have been booked under non‑bailable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt, obscene acts and words, criminal intimidation and robbery/dacoity. Police say the investigation is ongoing and more arrests may follow. ## Context The incident highlights how criminals sometimes exploit urgent medical claims to lure victims, and the use of the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita shows India’s shift to a unified criminal code.
