Telangana slashes Hyderabad Metro‑RTC common pass fares by over half
Reported by Imran Qureshi (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
Telangana government has cut the price of the Hyderabad Metro‑RTC common pass by more than half. The monthly pass will cost ₹4,000, down from ₹8,500, with ₹3,000 covering Metro rides and ₹1,000 for RTC services. Users can now make up to 50 round trips per month on the pass. The daily pass price falls to ₹275 from ₹400, split as ₹200 for Metro and ₹75 for RTC, and limits riders to four single journeys each day. Earlier the passes allowed unlimited trips, but the new rules introduce these caps. The maximum fare for a trip between Miyapur and L.B. Nagar on the red line, or Nagole and Raidurg on the blue line, remains ₹69. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced the changes on Friday, November 6, 2026, calling the reduction a Deepavali gift and a step to make public transport more affordable. Officials have been instructed to implement the revised rates from Sunday, November 8, 2026. ## Context The cut follows criticism of the steep original fares and aims to boost ridership on Hyderabad’s integrated Metro‑RTC network.
