Indian stock markets recorded their seventh straight day of gains on Friday, November 6, 2026, moving against a negative trend in global markets. The 30-share BSE Sensex went up by 1,718.01 points, or 2.17 percent, to close at 81,028.02. At the same time, the 50-share NSE Nifty rose 493.75 points, or 2.01 percent, to finish at 25,030.35.
Market Movers
Mahindra & Mahindra led the gains among Sensex companies, rising 6.15 percent. The automaker reported a 25 percent increase in its consolidated profit after tax to 4,587.88 crore rupees for the second quarter ending in September. Other winners included ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, Titan, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank. Power Grid was the only stock in the blue-chip index to end the day in the red. Over the past seven days of consecutive growth, the Sensex has gone up by a total of 7,781.99 points, or 10.62 percent, while the Nifty has added 2,331.5 points, or 10.27 percent.
Global Factors
External support came from foreign institutional investors buying equities worth 14,974.68 crore rupees on Thursday, along with a drop in global crude oil prices. Brent crude fell 1.50 percent to 96.82 dollars per barrel. This local strength stood out while markets across the world dropped. Asian indices like South Korea's Kospi fell 6.02 percent and Japan's Nikkei 225 dropped 5.96 percent, while European markets and Wall Street also saw heavy selling.
Context
Stock market indices like the Sensex and Nifty track the overall price movement of major companies listed on Indian stock exchanges. Foreign institutional investors are large financial groups from other countries that invest money into Indian shares, and their buying activity often plays a big role in driving local market trends up or down.
