Google and the Sikkim Education Department have signed a Statement of Intent to roll out artificial‑intelligence training across the state’s higher‑education institutions. The agreement will launch a practical programme called the Google AI Educator Series, which aims to teach faculty the latest AI tools offered by Google. Training will be delivered in 15 government higher‑ and technical‑college campuses as well as Khangchendzonga State University, allowing teachers to weave AI applications into their lessons and create learning experiences suited for future jobs. Education Minister Raju Basnet praised the move, saying that embracing emerging technology will boost Sikkim’s education ecosystem. Officials noted that the effort should raise educators’ digital skills and help them meet the evolving demands of university instruction. The signing ceremony was attended by Principal Secretary Sandeep Tambe, Special Secretary Ujjwal Rai, Joint Director Tshering Yangchen Bhutia and representatives from Google.
Context
AI tools are increasingly used in classrooms worldwide to personalise learning and streamline content creation. Providing teachers with hands‑on experience helps institutions keep pace with these global trends and prepares students for a technology‑driven job market.
