Xbox has denied claims that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be playable on personal computers through Xbox Cloud Gaming when it launches on 19 November. A report published by The Verge on 7 October stated that Microsoft had secured exclusive streaming rights for the highly anticipated title from Rockstar Games. According to that report, the setup would have allowed PC users to play the game without needing an Xbox console or waiting for a native computer version. However, Matthew Ball, the Chief Strategy Officer at Xbox, rejected the claim on the social media platform X. He stated that the game will launch on consoles on 19 November but will not be available to stream on PC. He added that cloud gaming for the title is not likely to be accessible to computer gamers at launch. The earlier report had also quoted sources saying Microsoft signed the streaming deal, with Xbox chief Asha Sharma reportedly calling it a unique move that no other platform owner is doing. Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that the title will release for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5 on 19 November. Without a cloud streaming option for computers, PC players currently have no confirmed way to play the game on their preferred machines at launch. The confusion arose alongside Microsoft's broader plans to update its cloud gaming services. Reports indicate a new pay-as-you-go option is in development that will let users purchase blocks of streaming hours without needing a Game Pass subscription. At the same time, Xbox has revealed new limits on cloud gaming time for Game Pass members starting in November, with Ultimate customers receiving more hours than users on other subscription tiers.
Context
Major game releases often face high demand and heavy speculation regarding platform availability before launch. While cloud gaming services continue to grow as an alternative to owning specific hardware, platform holders maintain strict control over where and how their titles can be played.
