Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan held a two-hour meeting at the chief minister's camp office in Undavalli on Tuesday to discuss seat-sharing, candidate selection, and strategy for upcoming local body elections. The alliance leaders discussed how seats should be divided based on the strength of each party in specific areas, with the goal of winning one hundred percent of the seats. Pawan Kalyan handed over a list of seats that the Janasena party wants to contest, including major corporations like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, and Tirupati.

Strategy and Coordination

Following the meeting with Pawan Kalyan, the chief minister met with TDP state president Palla Srinivasa Rao and Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu. The leaders reviewed feedback from Lok Sabha constituency-level coordination meetings and planned another coordination committee meeting for Wednesday to finalize the process. Discussions also focused on local-level disputes between alliance workers, the need for caution during other parties' defections to prevent friction, and plans to set up a state-level mechanism for better coordination between the parties.

Context

Local body elections in Andhra Pradesh involve grassroots rural and urban governance bodies like municipalities and corporations, where alliance dynamics often differ from general elections due to strong local leadership and party cadres. Handling seat-sharing and backward class reservations are standard electoral challenges for multi-party coalitions aiming to maintain unity at the ground level.
