Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will launch a driverless Automated People Mover (APM) by 2030, linking Terminals 1, 2 and 3, the cargo terminal, Aerocity and a Delhi Metro station. The 7.3‑km line will serve six stations and cut travel between T1 and T3 to about 13 minutes. Officials estimate the project will cost roughly Rs 3,500 crore and are finalising design details. In its first year the system is expected to carry around 55,000 passengers daily, easing congestion at India's busiest airport. Under the airport's master plan that runs to 2036, annual passenger handling capacity will rise from the current 106 million to 125 million, with a possible peak of 129 million. Of the planned 125 million seats, 86 million will be for domestic travellers and 39 million for international ones. Pier E at Terminal 3 is slated for construction by April 2030, while Pier C has been repurposed from domestic to international use. ## Context The APM mirrors similar driverless links at other major airports, aiming to speed inter‑terminal movement and support the expected surge in passenger traffic as air travel rebounds.
