Mini Unveils Rugged Countryman Untamed Edition for International Markets

Mini has taken the wraps off the Countryman Untamed Edition, a rugged new version of its popular SUV designed to handle rough terrain. Production of this special model is scheduled to start in November 2026 at the BMW Group factory located in Leipzig, Germany, ahead of an international market launch in early 2027.

Off-Road Upgrades

The vehicle features a 15-millimetre suspension lift, raising ground clearance by up to 19 millimetres based on the specific market and variant. This extra height helps improve the approach and breakover angles for driving over obstacles. It rides on special 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in custom Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tyres. Mini has adjusted the anti-lock braking system, dynamic stability control, and steering to match the new tyres and suspension setup. Buyers can also pick the ALL4 all-wheel-drive system on select variants. For outdoor trips, an optional tow bar supports up to 2,000 kilograms of towing capacity. The roof handles up to 75 kilograms while moving and 300 kilograms when parked, and Mini even offers a custom roof tent alongside other camping accessories.

Design And Interior

Exterior updates include a new front grille featuring angular inserts and a Dark Steel finish. This dark tone extends to the Mini badges, model lettering, and underbody protection. Customers can choose from five paint colours: Hideaway Grey, Nomad Blue, Frozen Nomad Blue, Nanuq White, and Midnight Black. The roof is available in Glazed White or Jet Black, while special decals sit above the wheel arches and an Untamed mountain logo appears on the C-pillar. Inside, the cabin gets sports seats with perforated covers and knitted fabric near the shoulders and headrests. The dashboard and door panels display a dark grey and blue Millennial Melange knitted pattern. The centre console features a new shape with elastic straps, and the kit includes rubber floor mats and a matching boot mat.

Powertrain Options

Depending on the chosen trim, the Untamed Edition comes in either petrol or electric formats. For comparison, the standard Countryman lineup in India includes the C, JCW ALL4, and E models. The petrol Countryman C uses a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo engine making 156 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque. The powerful JCW ALL4 relies on a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo motor pushing out 300 horsepower and 400 Nm. Meanwhile, the electric Countryman E pairs a 64.6-kilowatt-hour battery with a front-mounted motor producing 204 horsepower and 250 Nm, delivering a claimed driving range of up to 462 kilometres under WLTP testing rules. It is not yet clear if Mini will introduce this variant to Indian buyers.
