IIT Hyderabad and S&P Global Open Finance‑Focused AI Lab

Lab Launch

IIT Hyderabad and S&P Global inaugurated an AI Innovation Lab for finance on October 7, 2026. The lab will let students and faculty tackle real‑world AI problems in the financial sector. It will bring together academic research and industry‑led challenges. Students can work on finance‑focused projects, attend workshops, interact with experts and prototype AI solutions. Selected members will also join joint research projects with S&P Global.

Collaboration

A $10 million, three‑year commitment backs the lab and a wider partnership. IIT Hyderabad is a Strategic Collaborator for StepForward, an S&P Global and S&P Global Foundation programme that promotes workforce readiness and AI education. The lab adds a finance‑focused layer to the institute’s research ecosystem, which already spans robotics, healthcare, energy, sustainability, semiconductors and quantum technologies. The initiative is expected to create a link between academic research, industry requirements and AI‑based applications.

Context

AI tools are increasingly used to analyse large financial data sets, spot patterns and support decision‑making, so industry‑academia labs help turn research into practical solutions.
