Meta launches 'Spaces' to organize tasks with Muse AI agents
Reported by Siddharth Deshmukh (Staff Writer) · TechCrunch ·
Meta has introduced Spaces, a sidebar feature that lets users create dedicated AI‑assisted workspaces with its Muse agents. Spaces act as breakout conversations focused on a single goal and appear as custom experiences in the Muse sidebar. Clicking a Space opens a tab where the agent works toward the specified task. Meta cites examples such as planning a vacation, gathering recipes for a family event, tracking holiday gifts, managing a wedding plan or organizing DIY projects. "Describe an idea in chat, and Muse builds a space for you, whether that's a tracker, a planner or a project board," the company said. The tool can pull data from third‑party apps, so concert dates, price changes or savings progress update automatically without prompting. On X, founder‑CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted that he had built a BBQ game, an event tracker and a home‑control dashboard using Spaces and urged others to try it. Muse agents have enjoyed a warm reception, and during Meta's October earnings call Zuckerberg noted that they reached 10 million users in the U.S. and Canada within two months of debut. The rollout follows the week‑old launch of Muse Voice, which adds video chat and voice commands, and puts Meta in direct competition with OpenAI’s "dots" and SpaceXAI’s "Grokbot" avatars.
Context
Meta is expanding its AI‑assistant ecosystem to keep users inside its platform, mirroring a broader industry push for personalized, task‑oriented chatbots that integrate with everyday apps.
