Abhay Arora Shares How He Shared the Role of Parshuram with Ranbir Kapoor in Ramayana
Reported by Ananya Das (Senior Writer) · Indian Express - Entertainment ·
Actor Abhay Arora has shared details about how he played the sage Parshuram alongside lead actor Ranbir Kapoor in director Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming film Ramayana. Nitesh Tiwari's big-budget movie features Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi playing Sita, and Yash playing Ravana. Abhay Arora stated that the filmmakers wanted to show a strong visual connection between two different forms of Lord Vishnu, specifically Lord Parshuram and Lord Ram. Because of this creative choice, the production team decided to use Abhay's physical performance while digitally placing Ranbir Kapoor's face over his body in certain shots.
Performance Details
Abhay explained that he and Ranbir gave identical performances, using the exact same lines and emotions. The actor performed the scenes first, and Ranbir shot them a day later after careful planning and discussions. The final film uses a mix of shots featuring both actors. Abhay noted that this work goes far beyond a standard body double role, since he had to deliver actual dialogues and emotional depth. He also played one of the suitors who tries to win Sita's hand in marriage during another sequence in the movie.
Other Projects
Aside from his work on Ramayana, Abhay also acted in Aditya Dhar's film Dhurandhar, where he played the character Yasir Arafat. The actor recalled flying back and forth between Bangkok and Mumbai to shoot both projects at the same time. He spent four days filming scenes for Ramayana alongside Ranbir Kapoor, describing the lead actor as helpful and easy to talk to about work and life. During the shoot, Abhay also met veteran actor Arun Govil, who plays Lord Dashrath in the movie and is well known for playing Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar's classic television series.
Context
Major epic films often use advanced visual effects and specialized casting choices to create specific visual links between mythical characters from the same divine lineage. Bringing together multiple actors for a single role through performance capture and face-replacement techniques is becoming more common in large-scale Indian cinema. Such collaborative acting work allows filmmakers to maintain visual consistency across complex mythological narratives while managing high-profile star appearances.
