Thomas Tuchel Drops Cole Palmer and Calls Up Uncapped Jobe Bellingham in New England Squad

England manager Thomas Tuchel has left Cole Palmer out of his latest squad for upcoming Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain. Tuchel stated that Palmer misses too many opportunities to impress and noted his absence follows past warnings about missing camps after pulling out of previous fixtures with a minor muscular injury. Chelsea had told England that Palmer was fit and available when national team staff made contact.

Squad Changes

Uncapped 21-year-old Jobe Bellingham has received his first senior call-up alongside Josh King. Tuchel explained that Jobe Bellingham was called up due to a shortage in central midfield caused by Alex Scott not being ready and Myles Lewis-Skelly being suspended for the Croatia match. Tuchel also recalled Arsenal right-back Ben White, who returns for the first time since March after previously making himself unavailable under Gareth Southgate, alongside returning players like Declan Rice and Djed Spence. Additional selections include Morgan Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest.

Manager Goals

Tuchel outlined his target for the remainder of the Nations League campaign, stating he is aiming for top spot in the group and wants a final showdown in Spain. He described the upcoming match against Croatia as crucial following a previous 7-0 win that he noted did not reflect Croatia's general quality. Meanwhile, fan reactions to Palmer's exclusion were mixed in a poll, with 68 percent of respondents agreeing with the manager's call and 32 percent disagreeing.
