Uttar Pradesh lifts Dearness Allowance to 63% for State Workers
Reported by Rituparna Sen (Section Editor) · The Hindu - National ·
Uttar Pradesh government has raised the Dearness Allowance for state employees to 63%, up from 60%, effective July 1, 2026. The 3% hike applies to state government staff, employees of aided educational and technical institutions, regular and full‑time workers of urban local bodies, work‑charged personnel and those drawing salaries on UGC pay scales. The increase will be reflected in the regular November 2026 salary, meaning the enhanced allowance will be paid along with that month's wages. A government order issued on November 7, 2026 formalised the change. The move is expected to benefit lakhs of employees across the state. The official statement said the Yogi Adityanath administration’s decision will provide relief to regular staff as well as to personnel in aided schools, urban bodies and other eligible categories.
Context
Dearness Allowance is a cost‑of‑living supplement paid to government workers; raising it helps offset inflationary pressure on wages. Such hikes are typically announced annually by state governments.
