Two women face arrest in separate raids in Alwal for illegally selling liquor bought from defence canteens at lower prices, with excise teams seizing 163 bottles valued at ₹2.11 lakh.
First Raid
The Malkajgiri Enforcement team raided a house in Saraswathi Nagar, Lothukunta, after receiving tips about illegal sales. Officials recovered 96 bottles from the home of Manyam Nagaprasanna and her husband Ram Anjaneyulu. Ram Anjaneyulu reportedly bought the liquor using defence canteen access, while his wife handled the sales from home. Authorities registered a case against both and handed Nagaprasanna over to the Alwal Excise Station.
Second Raid
In another operation, the State Task Force team raided a house in Soujanya Colony, New Bowenpally. They seized 67 defence liquor bottles from 39-year-old Musimi Lenka. She was also arrested and sent to the Alwal Excise Station.
Context
Defence canteens in India offer items like liquor at lower prices because they are meant exclusively for service personnel and veterans without heavy state taxes. Selling this quota liquor to regular citizens outside official rules is illegal and draws strict action from state excise departments.
